Getting to know Turner:
Q: When/how did you become involved with Lightbearers?
A: I first found out about Lightbearers after noticing a Lightbearers student working on bible studies in class which made me curious. I asked her what she was doing, and she told me that she was working on what her mentor was teaching her. This led to a few more conversations about Lightbearers, and I learned it was a campus ministry focused on discipleship. I’m thankful for God’s grace and sovereignty in that I was discipled early in my life, so I knew the importance of discipleship. The idea of being discipled and having the opportunity to disciple others was something that I definitely wanted to be a part of. I met with Matt and joined Lightbearers. My involvement with Lightbearers, so far, has been as a student and as an intern.
Q: What excites you about the Lightbearers vision?
A: I love the structure that Lightbearers has established for supporting and helping the local community and discipling students. It’s wonderful how there are different components of exposure such as institute, assigned mentors, student community, and overseas missions that the students are involved in. It shows them a more complete picture of Christ and that discipleship can be a part of everyday life.
Q: Other than Jesus, what Bible character would you want to have lunch with?
A: Tough question! If I could only pick one, I would say John, because he lived on earth at the same time Jesus did. He is the author of the Gospel of John and Revelation. How awesome would it be to talk with John about Jesus and the book of Revelation?
Q: Other than Bible characters, what three people, living or dead, would you want to have lunch with?
A: Charles Spurgeon, Voddie Baucham, David Platt
Q: 5. What is your favorite book and/or quote?
A: Favorite book would be “The Gospel’s Power and Message” by Paul Washer. Favorite quote would be – “To be much like Christ, is to be much with Christ.” – Charles Spurgeon
Q: What does a fun, relaxing day look like for you?
A: A fun, relaxing day for me would be in the mountains with my family around mid-October. The day would start with breakfast that was cooked outside on a griddle so that the smell could fill the atmosphere. After breakfast we would all pack up and go canoeing down a crystal clear creek that was filled with fish and had a few rapids for fun. Once the canoe trip was finished, I would go back, clean up, and take a nice nap until I smelled the food on the grill that my dad had started cooking. We would enjoy the most tender, juicy steaks with a sweet potato and stuffed peppers as sides. The day would end around a campfire full of laughter as we told old hunting and fishing stories.
